DAFO 9 Gets an Update

The DAFO 9, our adjustable stretching-positioning brace, has been upgraded. The result is a solution that’s even better for stretching and comfortable positioning. Here are the main refinements.

Elastic added

Stretching happens best if it’s a suggestion rather than a command. The muscles can then relax into the stretch. We added latex-free elastic portions to the velcro strap to allow occasional escape from constant stretching, increasing comfort and compliance. The elastic attaches to the rest of the stretching strap via D-rings on either side of the foot.

Trimline at the toe lever

The trimline (both medial and lateral) along the toe lever has an extra curve in it: half of a strong toe lever. In fact, we call it a modified strong toe lever. It curves up along the foot partway, adding strength to allow not just the toe shelf but the whole foot-bed of the brace to flex up. In plastic, a curve adds strength to a flexing action.

Anterior strap removed

We have eliminated the anterior strap. There is no threat of the leg coming out the front, so one less thing needs to be secured or undone.
