Shoes for DAFO Braces

The team at Cascade Dafo recommends that shoes be worn over the DAFO®s to enhance the effectiveness of the brace, and to improve durability. Fortunately, more specialty shoe options for children who wear braces are now available.

Specialty Footwear

There are several advantages to wearing footwear specially designed to be worn over DAFO or AFO braces.

• The proportions of width and depth of the specialty shoes are much more appropriate. This prevents the problem of having to purchase shoes that are several sizes too big and long to accommodate the brace.

• Removable insoles in many of the styles enable the user to customize the volume of the shoe to accommodate the differences of each foot and brace.

• Some shoe designs include a patented rear-entry system or construction that easily allows for adding a lift or extra-durable materials to endure the stress of demanding gait patterns.

• In some cases, it is possible to order different sized shoes for each foot.
