How Can We Help?

Answers to your frequently asked questions.

Amy, Technical Support

In what situations should I use a footplate to cast, and when should I not use a footplate?

Use footplates to help in casting if the foot’s contours conform easily to those of a footplate and the foot is fully correctable to a balanced position. But if the footplate will mask contours we’d like to see, such as an uncorrectable, rocker bottom foot, don’t use the footplate. Instead, while the casting tape sets up, work the contours of the foot and ankle into the cast by running your fingers along those contours with steady, gentle pressure.

This foot can be corrected to a balanced position and thus can be cast with a footplate.

This foot cannot be corrected to a balanced position. Don’t use a footplate.

If I use a footplate, should I leave it in the cast or remove it before sending the cast to Cascade?

Our pre-contoured, flexible footplates are designed for casting and easy removal, so take it out of the cast. This way your set is complete and ready for the next patient.

Casting footplates can make for more consistently accurate casts—and better-fitting braces. An added bonus: you can use footplates to choose the size for Fast Fit products. To order a set of casting footplates, see www.cascadedafo.com/orderforms or call Customer Service at 800.848.7332.

Why do you recommend always getting order forms from www.cascadedafo.com/orderforms?

Use the most recent order forms so you can have access to our latest bracing options. (For example, there is another toe shelf option for our DAFO Turbo, and we’ve now included the transfer patterns on our eForms—see What’s News) Go to www.cascadedafo.com/orderforms and choose the eForm you need. Or, for a PDF of the Master Order Form Booklet, click Download. You can also call Customer Service, 800.848.7332, and they can fax or email you the form you need.
